Key Responsibilities of a Yard Jockey:
Container Handling: May assist with inspecting containers, managing equipment, and ensuring the safe movement of trailers.
Other Duties: May include tasks like fueling trailers, cleaning equipment, and assisting with loading and unloading.
Communication: Communicates with other members of the cargo yard team
Paperwork: May be responsible for filling out necessary delivery forms and paperwork
Maneuvering Trailers: Operates a terminal tractor (also called a yard dog or hostler) to move semi-trailers within the yard, ensuring proper positioning for loading and unloading.
Docking Assistance: Assists with docking trailers at loading docks and ensures trailers are properly positioned.
Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: Performs daily safety checks on the yard truck and reports any issues.
